Lobster Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Many have asked where I get my cooking inspirations from. As cliche as it sounds, it's usually from my incessant scrolling through Instagram food accounts -or- from things I've eaten and enjoyed at restaurants. There's somewhat of a thrill for me to try and guess what ingredients are in these restaurant dishes. The more overpriced they are, the more motivated I am to try to replicate at home.

Most recently, I tried a lobster grilled cheese sandwich from a new restaurant that opened in my neighborhood. It was delicious but felt a little pricey at $18 for so little lobster meat. So what did I do? I made it myself at home. And what did I learn? That it costs more to make at home than it did at the restaurant, ha! SMH. Lobsters are just too darn expensive if you don't buy in bulk and wholesale!

It's still yummy though :)

Lobster Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Prep Time: 15 min

Cook Time: 10 min

Yields: 1 serving

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of bread

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)

  • 2-3 oz lobster meat (cooked)

  • 1.5 slices of Gruyere cheese

  • 1.5 slices of mild cheddar cheese

  • 1/8 tsp celery salt

Directions:

  • Have your lobster meat cooked, chopped, and ready.

  • How-to tip: If using fresh lobster tail, remove meat from the shell. Discard shell. Broil on high for 10 minutes. Then chop into smaller pieces.

  • Brush both sides of your bread with butter. Add 1.5 slices of Gruyere on one slice of bread. Add 1.5 slices of mild cheddar cheese on the second slice of bread.

  • Heat up a large non-stick pan on medium heat. Once the pan is hot, add the two slices of bread (with the cheese facing up). Cover the pan with a clear lid, and let sit for about 3 minutes until cheese starts to melt. Careful not to let the bread burn.

  • Add lobster meat to one slice of bread. Evenly season with celery salt. Then place the other bread over to form your grilled cheese sandwich. Let sit for 1 minute until all filling starts melting together. Again, careful not to let the bread burn.

  • Note: If your bread does start to brown faster than your cheese melts, remove from stove. An alternative would be to microwave the grilled cheese for about 5-10 seconds. This will allow the cheese to melt without compromising the bread.

  • Slice sandwich in half. Eat as is or with tomato soup.
