(Air Fried) Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings

If you don't own an air fryer, I highly recommend that you go get one! Right now! I own a Ninja Foodi and absolutely love it. It has so many functions, including steamer, slow cooker, roaster, and air fryer. To be honest, I've only used it as an air fryer because I love fried foods so much. I've tested with various proteins and vegetables. The one item that consistently provides the best outcome is skin-on chicken. With its natural fat and oil, the air fryer is able to create crispy skin that also mimics fried chicken skin. It's honestly so nice to not have to use a pot of oil, make a mess, and scream every time the oil splatters or pops.

During the recent Super Bowl, I wanted to try chicken wings instead of my usual thighs. I air fried them and then quickly tossed in butter and seasoning. End to end, it only took about 30 minutes to make (with virtually zero active cooking time). I highly recommend this if you're in a pinch to whip up a quick appetizer -or- just craving some delicious, crispy wings!

(Air Fried) Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings

Prep Time: 5 min

Cook Time: 25 min

Servings: 1-2

Ingredients:

  • 5 whole chicken wings or 10 chicken drumettes/flats

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1.5 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)

  • ~1/4 tsp lemon pepper seasoning (or to taste)

  • ~1/8 tsp salt (or to taste)

  • 1 small lemon wedge

  • Olive oil

Directions:

  • Set air fryer temperature to 390 degrees F.

  • In a shallow bowl, add flour.

  • Dredge each chicken wing in flour, then place in air fryer. Set timer to 25 minutes. About halfway through air frying, open and drizzle a little olive oil over the chicken wings (particularly where flour is still visible).

  • Once 25 minutes have passed, internal temperature should reach 165 degrees F (for safe consumption). Transfer air fried chicken to a large bowl. Add melted butter, lemon pepper seasoning, and salt (to taste). Toss until chicken wings are evenly coated.

  • Transfer to serving plate. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over lemon pepper chicken wings and serve warm.

Alternative: If you do not have an air fryer, you can bake in the oven at 400 degrees F for at least 30 minutes (or until internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F).
