Baked Mussels with Cheese Mayo

What's one of the fastest appetizers you can make that's a tasty crowd pleaser? Baked mussels! While there's lots of things you can garnish it with, I especially love a good cheese mayo sauce (similar to ones you may find at some Japanese appetizer menus).

Baked Mussels with Cheese Mayo

Prep Time: 5 min

Cook Time: 10 min

Yields: 8 pieces

Ingredients:

  • 8 mussels (frozen OK)

  • 5 tbsp Kewpie mayo (Japanese mayo)

  • 3 tbsp shredded or grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1/8 tsp soy sauce

  • 1/8 tsp Sriracha

  • Pinch of sugar

  • One squeeze of lemon juice

  • Tobiko (fish roes) (for garnish)

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.

  • Meanwhile, place mussels on a baking tray (meat facing up).

  • In a small bowl, mix together Kewpie mayo, Parmesan cheese, soy sauce, Sriracha, sugar, and lemon juice. Adjust ratio to taste as desired. Use a spoon to scoop a small spoonful over each mussel, as evenly as possible while covering all of the meat.

  • Bake for about 10 minutes, or until edges of cheese start to brown.

  • Remove from stove, garnish with tobiko, and serve warm!
