Butter-Basted Rib-Eye Steak

While I try to stay away from red meat on a norm, I had a sudden craving for juicy, fatty steak today. What I love about cooking meat is that it's so easy. You don't have to worry about salmonella like you do with chicken, and it's not as delicate as most seafood. On top of that, you can make a seemingly fancy piece of steak with very few ingredients and in very little time. I like mine simple, so I always turn to butter and herbs.

In 15 minutes, you can create this...

Butter-Basted Rib-Eye Steak

Prep Time: 5 min

Cook Time: 10 min

Servings: 2

Ingredients:

  • 1 rib-eye steak

  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter

  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)

  • 6 thyme sprigs

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • Salt & pepper (to taste)

Directions:

  • Heat up olive oil on a medium-sized cast iron over medium high heat. Season rib eye with salt and pepper over both sides. Once cast iron is hot, carefully add steak to the pan.

  • Add 1.5 tbsp of butter and let it melt around the steak. Let sit for about 5 minutes (or until the bottom forms a nice brown crust). Flip the steak and add remaining 1.5 tbsp of butter, garlic, and thyme. Using a spoon, baste the steak with the melted butter for about 3-5 minutes (or until the bottom forms a nice brown crust - for a medium rare finish).

  • Transfer to a cutting board. Let cool for a few minutes before cutting to serve.
